Add and Edit your Loyalty Card fields

Add new fields and edit and move existing fields

Written by Danny Allen

After choosing your loyalty card design, the next step will be to edit the fields currently shown on the pass, and add some of your own.

This article will cover the following,

Terminology

Field

A specific piece of information displayed on the pass.

Design

The visual layout and organisation of the pass.

Secure Field

A field that stores sensitive personal information (PII) and is encrypted.

Custom Data Field

A field that allows you to input specific data for each pass or for all passes.

Field Key

A unique identifier for a custom data field.

Label

The visible name of a field on the pass.

Default Value

A pre-set value for a custom data field.

Editing and deleting current fields

Editing Fields

To edit a field from your design, click on the field to open the field settings. Make your changes and click on Save.

Note: Any changes you make will immediately be sent to any passes issued from that tier when you click Save. Please double check before 'Saving'.

Deleting Fields

To delete a field from your design, first click on the field to open the field settings. Depending which design you are looking at you will have the option to remove the field from the Apple or Google design.

You will need to remove the field from both designs independently.

Moving fields on the Loyalty Card design

Moving fields on the design is easy, simply drag and drop the field to the desired location, click Save when done.

Tip: The design is governed by the Apple Wallet and Google Wallet specifications, so field have set positions in the design. The rule of thumb is that if you can't do it in the designer, then it's not possible.

Adding new fields, including custom fields

There are 4 different types of fields you can add to your design.

Encrypted Fields - Secure fields (PII) store personal information about the pass holder. PassKit encrypts this data at rest and in transit.

Protocol Fields - These are fields specific to the pass type

Recommended Fields - Fields that may be helpful on the pass

Custom Data Fields -

  • Fields where the data remains the same across all passes

  • Fields where the data can be different for each pass

More information regarding Custom Fields here

Adding a secure field

Click on the plus sign where you want to add the field, click on encrypted fields and choose the field to add, in this example I am adding the Email field.

Note: Don't forget to add the fields to both the Google and Apple design

Adding a Custom Data Field where the data remains the same across all passes

Click on the plus sign where you want to add the field, click on New Data Field and click 'Add'

Select "This value is the same for each member.", then:

  • Change the field name to something appropriate, this will also determine the Field Key for this field.

  • Change the label of the field to what you want, I'm using "Level"

  • Set the default value.

Now we need to add the field to the other design.

Click to edit the Apple or Google design (this depends where you added the field first).

Click on the plus sign where you want to add the field, click on Your Data, choose the field to add (in this example I will choose Level) and click Add.

Click Save to save your changes.

Adding a Custom Data Field where the data can be different for each pass

Click on the plus sign where you want to add the field and click on Custom fields.

Click on the new field on the design to open the field settings

  • Select this field is different for each pass.

  • Change the unique field name to something appropriate, this will also determine the Field Key for this field.

  • Change the label of the field to what you want, I'm using "Member No"

Note: No need to set a default value as these values are provided when the pass is issued.

Click "Save" when finished.

Now we need to add the field to the other design.

Click to edit the Apple or Google design (this depends where you added the field first).

Click on the plus sign where you want to add the field, click on Meta Data, choose the field to add (in this example I will choose Member No) and click "Save".

Don't forget to click "Save Design" at the top right when done.
