In addition to the features mentioned, a powerful capability of PassKit business card passes is the ability to encode a vCard into the barcode. This allows the recipient to instantly save your contact information to their address book by simply scanning the QR code with their smartphone.

Encoding a vCard into the Barcode

To make the process of saving contact information even more seamless, you can set the barcode payload of your pass to be a vCard. When a person scans the QR code on your digital business card, all your key details are automatically recognised and presented as a new contact card on their phone. This eliminates the need for manual data entry.

PassKit recommends using a QR code for vCard encoding. You can configure the barcode payload to include dynamic fields from the pass, such as:

  • Name (FN)

  • Email (EMAIL;WORK)

  • Company (ORG)

  • Title (TITLE)

  • Phone Numbers (TEL)

  • Website (URL)

You can access the barcode settings for your business card in the PassKit designer and enter a vCard string into the barcode payload field, using your pass's dynamic fields to automatically populate the values for each individual card.

This feature ensures your contacts always have the most up-to-date information and makes sharing your details professional, quick, and effortless.
