Introduction
Enhance your brand's presence and provide a fully cohesive experience by customizing the domain from which PassKit welcome and pass delivery emails are sent. This advanced feature allows your digital passes to arrive in your customers' inboxes from your own branded domain, reinforcing trust and professionalism.
What is Customizing the Welcome Email Domain?
By default, PassKit's system-generated emails (like the Welcome Email that delivers a new pass) originate from a passk.it
domain. With this service, you can change the sending domain so that these emails appear to come directly from your brand (e.g., loyalty@yourdomain.com
, info@yourbrand.co
, or similar), while all other features and content of the Welcome Email remain unchanged.
This creates a seamless branding experience, from the email notification to the digital pass itself, ensuring your customers always see your brand as the sender.
What's Included in the Service?
When you opt for this custom email domain service, PassKit provides:
Initial Configuration: We configure your domain within the PassKit platform to enable email delivery via your custom domain.
Domain Verification Assistance: We'll assist you with the necessary steps to verify your domain and ensure proper functionality for email sending.
Ongoing Maintenance: We provide continuous monitoring of your domain's health related to email delivery, including DNS record integrity, email deliverability optimization, and proactive troubleshooting to ensure high delivery success rates for your passes.
Technical Support: Dedicated support for any configuration changes, email delivery issues, or other technical concerns related to your custom email domain.
Platform Compatibility: We conduct comprehensive testing to ensure any PassKit platform updates or changes are compatible with your custom domain setup.
What You Need to Do (Client Requirements)
To enable this feature, your team will need to perform some specific actions within your domain's DNS settings. This ensures secure and authenticated email delivery from your domain.
You will be required to:
Update your SPF records: This helps prevent email spoofing and ensures proper sender authentication.
Deploy the DKIM record provided by PassKit: DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) adds a digital signature to your outgoing emails, further verifying their authenticity. PassKit will provide you with the specific key to add.
Set up a DMARC policy: DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance) builds on SPF and DKIM to give you more control over what happens to emails that fail authentication. Please note that a DMARC policy, if not configured correctly, can impact other email delivery channels for your domain.
Important: These DNS tasks must be performed by your team or IT department, as PassKit cannot directly manage DNS records on your behalf.
Alternative Options for Advanced Email Needs
While customizing the email sender domain significantly enhances branding, it's important to note that the editing capabilities within PassKit for the Welcome Email content itself remain consistent with standard functionality. PassKit is not a dedicated email marketing platform.
If you require more advanced email editing (e.g., full HTML control, complex templates) or detailed email analytics (open rates, click-through rates beyond pass adds), we generally recommend integrating PassKit with a dedicated email marketing application (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact, HubSpot, etc.). This approach allows you to leverage the sophisticated features of an email management system while still using PassKit for pass delivery.
Scope of Custom Email Domain Service
This service only white-labels the domain name for the welcome and pass delivery emails. It does not white-label the PassKit Portal, Pass Designer, or any other part of the PassKit user-facing tools.
