Changing your Membership Pass Design to the Poster Format

Learn how to apply Apple’s new Poster format to your membership or loyalty pass.

Written by Danny Allen

In this article we will show you how to apply the new Apple Poster Design to your pass.

The designer featuring pass layout settings is currently only available in the Preview Portal. The Preview Portal is in beta, and may not work as expected.

This article will only show how to change the Pass layout settings and how to use them.

What is the Poster Format?

Apple’s new Poster format introduces a more visual, modern pass design with a larger image and centred pass information. It also supports Featured Actions, interactive buttons that give customers quick access to useful links and additional content.

The Poster Format is only available for Membership and Loyalty type passes, and is only available for Passes stored on iOS27 devices. Passes stored in iOS26 or lower will fallback to the current design.

Changes At a Glance

Change to the Poster Design

First, log in to the Preview Portal and navigate to the tier/design you wish to edit, and enter the pass designer.

Navigate to Layout Settings.

Make sure you are looking at the Apple Design, you can toggle the designs above the designer view.

The Layout settings are on the left the Pass Configuration, scroll down to Layout Settings.

Select the Poster layout

There are 3 options to choose from,

  • Strip - this is the "Loyalty" layout which features a strip image across the pass

  • Thumbnail - this is the "Membership" layout which features an profile image, but no strip image.

  • Poster - This features and full background image.

Select Poster, and confirm you want to change the pass layout.

Add the background image

Click on any clear area on the pass design to open the image

Edit text colours if required

You may need to adjust the Label and Text colours so they are more visible against your new background image.

Check/Add Logo Image

Check your logo image is still visible with your new background, or add an image if required.

Add Featured Actions

Featured Actions are interactive buttons that give customers quick access to useful links and additional content. These are displayed below the front of the pass.

Scroll down so the Featured Actions tiles are visible, then click on one to add a link.

Add an ID, and select the action you require. Click Save to finish.

Do the same for the other action, if required.

Add a Footer

The Poster Format also allows footer text in the field at the bottom of the front of the pass. This doesn't require a label, only the Value will show.

You can also set the field to be left, centre or right aligned.

Check the Fallback Design

Passes installed on devices running iOS26 or lower will display the non poster format. You can check the design by clicking on the button iOS26 at the top of the design.

The fallback design shares text colours with the Poster Design, so any changes there will affect the fallback design.

The background colour for the fallback design is also shared by the Google design.

In my example below I need to change the background colour to something darker so the white text is visible.

When done, click Save Design to save your changes.
