Choosing a Pass Type Design

The different pass type designs and typical uses.

When it comes to creating passes, there are several pass types to choose from. The pass types available are loyalty cards, membership cards, coupons and event tickets. Each pass type has it's own design elements that are useful for each use case. In this article, we'll take a closer look at each of these pass types and what they can be used for.

Loyalty Cards

Use the Loyalty Card style for store cards, discount cards, points cards, and gift cards. Typically, each pass will show a current balance but it is not required.

Billing Model:

Loyalty cards are used to reward customers for repeat business. This pass type allows you to create a digital loyalty card that can be easily scanned or presented to earn rewards or discounts. These cards are also multi-use passes that can be used multiple times by the customer and kept in their Wallet for extended period. Loyalty cards can be used to offer discounts, free items, or other incentives to encourage customers to return to your business. You can include information such as customer name, points earned, expiration date, and features a strip/hero image which can be used for marketing.

Membership Cards

Use the Membership Card style when you want to display an image of the member on the pass. Typically, each pass will show an expiry date but it is not required.

Billing Model:

This pass type is designed for organizations or businesses that offer membership programs. It allows you to create a digital membership card that can be easily accessed by your members. Membership cards are multi-use passes that provide access to exclusive content, services, or events. With this pass, you can include details such as the member's name, membership number, expiration date, and a profile image of the member. Members can use their membership cards as many times as they like during the period of their membership.

Coupons

Use the Coupon style for vouchers, coupons, special offers, and other discounts. Typically, each pass corresponds to a single offer and can only be used once.

Billing Model:

Coupons are a great way to offer discounts or promotions to your customers. These are single-use passes that can only be used once by the customer. With this pass type, you can create digital coupons that can be easily redeemed at your business. Coupons can be used to incentivize purchases, promote specific products or services, or drive traffic to your business. You can include details such as the offer name, expiration date, redemption instructions, and features a strip/hero image which can be used for marketing.

Event Tickets

Use the Event Ticket style to give people entry into events like concerts, movies, plays, and sporting events. Typically, each pass corresponds to a specific event.

Billing Model:

Tickets are used to provide access to events or experiences. This pass type is ideal for events or attractions that require admission. These are single-use passes that can only be used once by the customer to gain access to the event. You can create digital tickets that can be easily scanned or presented at the entrance. This pass can include information such as event name, date and time, venue details and can either have a blurred background image or a strip/hero image.

Notes

  • a) The limit of 1 row is only applicable for Apple Wallet Passes. Google Wallet does not have a limit.

  • b) The limit of 3 rows is only applicable for Apple Wallet Passes. Google Wallet does not have a limit.

  • c) Thumbnail & Background Image are only available in Apple Wallet.
