Manage Points using PassReader

How to scan and manage loyalty points using the PassReader app

Written by Paul Tomes

Introduction

By the end of this guide, you will be able to view a member’s current points balance and adjust it in under 30 seconds — for purchases, corrections, or promotional bonuses.

What is points management?

Points management lets your staff manually adjust a member’s loyalty points balance directly from the app — for example to reward a purchase made offline, correct a previous error, or apply a promotional bonus. Changes take effect immediately and sync to the member’s pass.

Before you start

  • The PassKit PassReader app must be installed (Android or iOS).

  • You must be logged in with your staff credentials.

  • Your device needs an active internet connection.

Step 1 — Find the member

Scan the member’s digital pass (QR code or barcode) from the Home screen, or navigate to History and tap a recent entry to return to a previously scanned member.

Step 2 — View the current points balance

Once the pass is scanned, the Member Hub screen opens. The points card shows:

Field

Description

Points

Primary loyalty points balance

Secondary

Secondary balance (if enabled for your programme)

Tier

Points that determine the member’s tier level

Review the balance before making any adjustment to confirm you have the right member.

Step 3 — Open Adjust Balances

On the Member Hub screen, tap the sliders icon (on the points card) to open the Adjust Balances screen.

NOTE The sliders icon has no text label — look for the icon with horizontal adjustment lines on the points card.

Step 4 — Set the new balance

The screen opens in Simple mode by default, showing only the PRIMARY POINTS stepper.

Use the – and + buttons to decrease or increase the value, or tap the number to type a value directly. The CURRENT BALANCES card at the top updates in real time to show the difference between the existing balance and the new value you are setting.

Advanced mode

If your programme uses secondary points or tier points, tap the Advanced toggle at the top of the screen. Two additional steppers appear:

  • SECONDARY — the secondary points balance.

  • TIER — the points value that determines the member’s tier level.

Adjust each one independently using the same stepper controls.

IMPORTANT You are setting an absolute value, not adding or subtracting a delta. For example, if a member has 500 points and you want to add 100, set the new value to 600.

TIP If your programme only uses primary points, you can stay in Simple mode — the Secondary and Tier fields will not be changed.

Step 5 — Save the changes

Tap Update Balances to confirm. The app sends the new balance to the PassKit server.

  • A confirmation message — “Balances updated successfully” — appears when the update is successful.

  • The Member Hub screen refreshes automatically with the new balance.

  • The member’s pass updates the next time they open it on their device.

NOTE If the Update Balances button is disabled, check that you have changed at least one value from its current balance.
