Introduction
By the end of this guide, you will be able to change a member’s membership tier (e.g. Silver to Gold) in a few taps directly from the Member Hub screen.
What is a tier change?
Membership programmes often have multiple tiers — such as Silver, Gold, and Platinum — that unlock different benefits. A tier change lets your staff manually promote or adjust a member’s tier directly from the app. The change takes effect immediately and syncs to the member’s pass.
Before you start
The PassKit PassReader app must be installed (Android or iOS).
You must be logged in with your staff credentials.\
Your account must have the change tier permission enabled. If the tier badge on the Member Hub screen is not tappable, contact your administrator.
The membership programme must have more than one tier configured. If only one tier exists, the tier badge will not be interactive.
Your device needs an active internet connection.
Step 1 — Scan the member’s pass
From the Home screen, tap the Start Scanning card and point the camera at the member’s QR code or barcode. The Member Hub screen opens automatically.
Step 2 — Tap the tier badge
Below the member’s name, you will see a coloured badge showing their current tier (e.g. GOLD). If you have the change tier permission, a small pencil icon appears next to the tier name — tap the badge to open the tier selector.
NOTE If the tier badge has no pencil icon and is not tappable, either your account does not have the change tier permission, or the programme only has one tier configured. Contact your administrator.
Step 3 — Select the new tier
A Change Tier sheet slides up from the bottom of the screen, listing all available tiers for this programme. The member’s current tier is shown with a checkmark icon.
Tap the tier you want to assign to the member.
IMPORTANT! There is no confirmation step — the tier change is applied immediately when you tap a tier. Make sure you select the correct one.
Step 4 — Confirm the result
After selecting a tier:
The sheet closes and the app contacts the PassKit server.
A green confirmation message — “Tier changed to [tier name]” — appears at the bottom of the screen.
The tier badge on the Member Hub screen updates to show the new tier.
The member’s Recent Activity section refreshes to include the tier change event.
Troubleshooting
Problem | What to do |
Tier badge is not tappable / no pencil icon | Your account does not have the change tier permission, or the programme has only one tier. Contact your administrator. |
"Network error. Please try again." | Check your internet connection and try again. The tier has not been changed. |
Tier badge still shows the old tier after changing | Pull to refresh on the Member Hub screen, or close and reopen it. |
The tier I need is not listed | Only tiers configured for this programme are shown. Contact your administrator to add new tiers. |
